A singular goal of our program is the active movement of precision medicine endeavors and accomplishments into basic sciences education and the public sphere. This comprises multiple areas of impact, from precision medicine academic and research support to educational talks and events for the lay community, as well as spotlighting innovative WashU faculty at public forums such as Venture Café and Academy of Science of St. Louis.
Academy of Science – St. Louis
In 2019 ICTS Precision Medicine, with joint sponsorship from Siteman Cancer Center, the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center, and the Children’s Discovery Institute, partnered with Academy of Science – St. Louis to host “Genetics and Genomics Series” seminars and STEM Teens community workshops/tours. This partnership provided important information and educational content to the St. Louis lay community and young, “future” scientists about how biomedical genetic research impacts their health and what the future of genetic/genomic endeavors hold.
